What is our whole-school reading strategy?
Our whole-school reading strategy means that everyone—teachers, support staff, pupils and families—works together to help every child become a confident, fluent reader.
Children receive consistent reading support throughout the school, including explicit phonics, paired reading, shared reading and guided reading. These approaches help children learn to decode words, read smoothly, understand texts and develop a love of books.
Families are an essential part of this journey. By reading together and practising regularly at home, you can reinforce what your child learns in school. When school and home work together, we can make a real difference.
Our reading promise is that every child will be supported, encouraged and inspired to discover the joy of reading and become a confident reader.
An Exciting New Chapter for Our School Library
We are delighted to share these wonderful designs for our planned new library area. The imaginative space will include inviting bookshelves, comfortable tiered seating and cosy reading nooks where children can curl up with a favourite story.
Designed to bring pupils together while also providing quiet spaces to read, the library will be a welcoming and inspiring place where every child can explore new worlds, share stories and develop a lifelong love of reading.
Working with the whole school and pupil council both last term and over the last few weeks has helped bring the design alive with a wishlist for books, fish tank, cosy spaces, projection onto the wall, puppets and a clearly organised system so books can be found and out away easily. We cannot wait to see these exciting plans come to life!
With thanks to the Farmington Institute for awarding our school a grant to develop our tired library area into what promises to be a really exciting place in our school. Building commences late October and we are all very excited.
